What Is a Rotary Control Cable?
Phidix’s rotary control cable converts rotational input (typically up to 270°) into linear motion, enabling remote actuation of mechanical systems—without the complexity of electronics or hydraulics.
This cable is non-locking, meaning it returns freely without ratcheting or detents. It’s ideal for manual HVAC controls, heater valves, dampers, marine shut-offs, and other applications where smooth, push-pull motion is required.
Core Working Principle: 270° Turn = 1.5" Linear Travel
Internally, the cable features a flexible spiral-wound inner core housed within a reinforced conduit. The rotary handle turns an input shaft (CW or CCW), driving the internal wire to create up to 1.5 inches of linear stroke at the output.
A simplified schematic:
Rotational Input → Linear Output
This design ensures tight transmission, minimal backlash, and precise movement for systems requiring remote yet mechanical control.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this cable reversible?
Yes. It can be configured for CW or CCW input rotation.
Q: Can the cable be mounted in confined dashboards?
Absolutely. Its flexible housing and threaded shaft make it easy to panel-mount in tight enclosures.
Q: What’s the minimum order quantity?
We offer both low-volume prototypes and OEM-level batch runs. Contact us for details.
Q: Can I request longer travel stroke or dual-end actuation?
Those are available under custom configurations. See customization page for details.
